Welcome to Cub Scouts and Pack 467. I sincerely believe Cub Scouts is one of the best decisions you can make for your child. Cub Scouts is the first step in the Boy Scout program and builds a strong foundation for what will be one of the most influential, educational and fun times of your child's life. The lessons learned will last a lifetime--and it all starts in Cub Scouts.
The purpose of Scouting is to develop leaderships skills and to build character. It also teaches an incredibly wide range of life skills that build young men into well rounded and self-reliant adults.
Pack 467 is committed to being family friendly. While the program--advancement, for example--is for the Cub Scouts, events--such as the Pinewood Derby--include the whole family. Not only does this make events even more fun, knowing everyone can participate simply makes life easier for many of our family as we recognize families are busy, pulled in many directions and don't need their schedules fully complicated.
Like many things in life, what you get out of Scouting depends largely on what you put into it. At the Cub Scout level, what your son gets out of the program depends largely on you. Do your best to get him to meetings and events. Do your best to help him obtain and wear the uniform. And, do your best to help him with his requirements and projects. If you do your best, he far more likely to do his best. Please also know you have a supportive group around you. Whether you need help with rides, dues, uniform costs or something else, just ask. Pack 467 is glad to help. You can ask your den leader, your fellow parents, me or anyone you feel comfortable with. We all want your son to have the best experience possible.
Pack 467 is volunteer run and whether it's a position out in the open like den leader or a behind the scenes position like treasurer, there is a way for you to get involved. There is a position that suits your talents, interests and available time. Not only will the pack appreciate your efforts, but best of all, your son will forever remember that you were one of his leaders. If you'd like to get involved, and I hope you do, please let someone currently in Pack 467 leadership know.
Lastly, I encourage you and your son to just have fun. It's meant to be an adventure. Enjoy the experiences and the challenges on the Scout trail.
